The MaMaBay REDD+ Coordinator will play a key support role in the implementation of forest carbon project activities in the Makira landscape. Working closely with the Science and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) teams, the position will provide essential field-level support for data collection, community engagement, monitoring, and technical coordination, while also gaining practical experience in forest carbon project development.
This position is ideal for a motivated early-career professional eager to strengthen their technical skills and contribute to impactful, community-driven conservation and climate mitigation outcomes.

Responsibilities:
1. Field Coordination and Data Collection Support
• Support coordination of field activities related to land use and forest monitoring, working closely with technical teams to ensure smooth planning and execution.
• Assist with standardized data collection processes (e.g., land cover observations, basic plot work), ensuring proper documentation and organization of field information.
• Support initial data organization and quality control in coordination with technical staff.
2. Technical Documentation and Reporting
• Support the preparation of technical documentation including baseline assessments, carbon stock analyses, and monitoring reports through desk research, data compilation, and field insights.
• Assist in gathering and organizing data from the field to inform Project Description (PD) and Monitoring Reports (MR) development, ensuring timely and complete annexes and supporting materials.
3. Community Engagement and Awareness
• Accompany field teams to community meetings, household surveys, and participatory mapping sessions, ensuring accurate documentation of outcomes.
• Help communicate technical elements of the carbon project to field stakeholders in clear, accessible terms, and ensure that local insights and feedback are relayed promptly to the central NbS team in Antananarivo (NbS Tana).
4. Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) Support
• Participate in the periodic monitoring of land use change and forest condition, contributing to regular MRV cycles.
• Assist in identifying and documenting trends in forest degradation or deforestation, and other relevant indicators.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the NbS Tana team in Maroantsetra, ensuring real-time communication on field operations, risks, and needs.
5. Technical Research and Capacity Building
• Support internal knowledge sharing on key carbon project topics such as forest monitoring, carbon standards, and REDD+ basics.
• Engage in ongoing learning and mentorship opportunities to strengthen technical capacity in field monitoring and reporting.
6. Operational and Logistical Support
• Coordinate logistical arrangements for field missions, including transportation, procurement of supplies, and liaison with local authorities or service providers.
• Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and use of field equipment (e.g., GPS devices, clinometers, data collection tools).
•Support documentation of community benefits, feedback, and grievance mechanisms as part of project safeguards.

•Malagasy nationality (mandatory requirement).
•Degree or advanced diploma in forestry, environmental science, geography, natural resource management, or related field.
•Strong interest in climate change mitigation, forest conservation, and community-based natural resource management.
•Practical field experience in forest inventory, ecological monitoring, or community engagement is an advantage.
•Basic understanding of carbon accounting and REDD+ frameworks is desirable (training will be provided).
•Good command of spoken and written French. Basic English desirable.
•Good communication, organization, and team collaboration skills.
•Willingness to work in remote areas and travel extensively within the project zone.
•Communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
•Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook or Gmail).

•High-quality field data and reporting inputs delivered on time and in alignment with carbon project standards.
•Strengthening community engagement through effective communication and participatory approaches.
•Improved capacity in carbon monitoring practices and project documentation at the field level.
•Enhanced coordination between local field teams and the central NbS technical unit.
